00417 Introduction to Legal System 15 CR

 
The students will be able to
  • understand juridical basic concepts and common doctrines and structure of legal system
• use sources of law and different types of databases in information searching and apply the gathered information
• apply juridical information connected to basic questions of laws concerning persons, obligations, property and companies
• act in working life according to demands set by basic rights, good governing, principles of service and legal protection
• find information about European juridical norms and apply these norms
 
Content
  • Finnish legal order
• doctrine of the sources of law and juridical judgement actions
• central juridical concepts
• law concerning persons, basics of laws concerning obligations and property, basics of private law, basics of society law, basics of family and inheritance law, commercial and finance legislation, origin of contract and invalidity, right of use and financing
• Finnish constitution, basic rights, central forms of public administration
• origins of EU, institutions and legislation
• interpretation of EU norms and applying them
 
Description
  Student gets competences for juridical thinking and gets general idea of central regulations of civil law, public law and European jurisdiction. Student adopts basic legal concepts and learns to use judicial sources, can use Finlex databases in information retrieval and achieves skills to apply juridical information.
Student learns the basic concepts and common doctrines of civil law of Finnish judicial system. Concepts, such as, rights, duties, procedural provision, judicial relief system and legal principles form the basis of learning process. During the study unit the forms of juridical judgement actions take form and student learns to apply legal norms and see juridical judgement actions as part of public admini-stration.
Central content of public law includes the basics of jurisprudence, procedure rules, relations between individual and the one in official duty and their duties and rights. Understanding the basic concepts helps juridical understanding and the entity of public actions.
Student gets a general idea of the basics leading to the birth of EEC and its historical development leading to European Union. Student knows the EU decision-making bodies, their functions and central jurisdiction relations. Student is familiar with the aims of European legislation and leading legal principles and also of the way European legislation is connected to international legislation and to Finnish legal system.
